For an overview of the Globus mailing list structure, please read our communication guidelines. The following general lists are available for subscription:
Globus-wide lists
| Community announcements: announce@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
| Security announcements (low volume, read only): security-announce@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
| Security-related, public discussion: security@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
For private reporting of security vulnerabilities see Mailing Lists#Reporting Potential Security Vulnerabilities
Distribution lists
Please help us keep our email lists useful for the community and the toolkit developers & contributors by posting discussions to the lists on appropriate topics. In particular, before sending email to gt-user or gt-dev, understand the intended usage of these lists. The intended topics of gt-dev and gt-user are mutually exclusively, therefore, there are rarely instances in which you should cross-post to these lists.
| Developer discussion: gt-dev@globus.org | The purpose of the gt-dev list is for discussions pertaining to the development of the toolkit. Notice that this means people who are actually developing the toolkit, not developing WITH the toolkit. In other words, if you are developing a component for your own usage, and not for inclusion in the GT distribution package or related components available from this site, this is NOT the list to use. |
| User discussion: gt-user@globus.org | The purpose of the gt-user list is for discussion pertaining to installation, configuration, administration, usage, and your own development of Grid services based on GT, and just about anything else related to the Globus Tookit in general. |
| Announcements: gt-announce@globus.org | The purpose of the gt-announce list is to receive communications about the toolkit (in particular announcements of releases and other major milestones). This list is not intended for discussion. |
| Commit notifications: gt-commit@globus.org | The purpose of the gt-commit list is to receive notifications of CVS commits that have been made for the toolkit. This is usually of interest to advanced developers of the toolkit. This list is not intended for discussion. |
Documentation lists
| Developer discussion: gtmanuals-dev@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
| User discussion: gtmanuals-user@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
| Announcements: gtmanuals-announce@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
| Commit notifications: gtmanuals-commit@globus.org | archive | subscribe | unsubscribe |
Project lists
Each project has its own set of mailing lists (developer discussion, user discussion, announcements and commit notifications). You can find them on each project page under the section "Mailing Lists" (see the sidebar on the left for links to each project page).
Reporting Potential Security Vulnerabilities
The email address security-alert@globus.org has been set up for reporting potential security vulnerabilities in the dev.globus Projects (any other email to this list will be ignored). Please report any potential security issues by sending mail to security-alert@globus.org. You need not be subscribed to post to this list.
This list is a closed list and all reports will be kept private. Please include information about the component, version number, platform and a description of the vulnerability.
Once the report has been verified, it is escalated to the Security Committee for further assessment and processing. Upon resolution of the issue, an announcement reporting the vulnerability and a fix will be posted on the security-announce@globus.org list.
You can find an archive of past security announcements in the security-announce email archives.
Searching the list archives
- Search within individual lists or across all lists using a web form.
- Go to your specific archive at http://www.globus.org/mail_archive/LIST/threads.html , replacing LIST with the name of the mail list of interest. For example, http://www.globus.org/mail_archive/mds-dev/threads.html will take you to the archive of the mds-dev list .
Subscribing to a mailing list
To subscribe, send an email to majordomo@globus.org which contains the following in the body:
subscribe [list name]
Replace "[list name] " above with the prefix to the list address of your choice. For example, if you want to subscribe to the GT User Discussion list at gt-user@globus.org, use "gt-user" as the list name.
You will then receive a mail from majordomo@globus.org asking that you confirm your subscription. You must send back the confirmation or your subscription request will not be completed.
Once you've successfully subscribed you will receive an email from majordomo@globus.org with the subject, "Welcome to [list-name]". If you do not receive this email, you have not been subscribed!
Be sure the email address you are trying to subscribe matches the one majordomo sees. If they do not match, you will not be able to post to the mailing list, but only read it.
Before posting a question, you might find How to Ask Questions the Smart Way beneficial in getting your question answered. Please do not contact the authors of that document for help.
Un-subscribing from a mailing list
To un-subscribe, send an email to majordomo@globus.org which contains the following in the body:
unsubscribe [list name]
Replace "[list name] " above with the prefix to the list address of your choice. For example, if you want to un-subscribe from the GT User Discussion list at gt-user@globus.org, use "gt-user" as the list name.
To unsubscribe from all mailing lists, send an email to majordomo@globus.org which contains the following in the body:
unsubscribe *
or
unsubscribe * [yourname@your.isp.com]
Replace "[yourname@your.isp.com]" above with the email address to unsubscribe if different from the one you're sending the message from.
